Summary:
The geometric argument holds water (you cannot stop the puns, you can only hope to contain them) for river networks. We recount the accidental demonstration that Hack's exponent is boringly h=1/2 for optimal drainage networks, and show it all makes sense for continental-scale river netowrks.
