Episode 07: Variable transfiguration as a source of power-law size distributions

Summary:

Simple variable transformation can lead to power-law size distributions. We move through the basic story. We'll come back here when we get to robustness of systems. Jumping to a random point in the universe is mostly okay but the statistics of surprise are at play. It can all go horribly wrong and everyone dies, unless it's a Doctor Who story. Then it just goes horribly wrong. We want to find the mechanisms underlying a sytem's behavior, and show how they lead to the emergent power-law size distributions. PLIPLO = Power-law in, Power-law out, and it's not very explanatory.
