Episode 28a: Contagion. Finally, the fever breaks

Summary:

We figure out how a node can be infected from the nodes surrounding it at time t, even when it's part of the giant component which has been terra incognita up until now. The story becomes one of iterative maps of the interval, beloved by dynamical systems fans the world over. We explore the effects of allowing a fraction of nodes be be initially infected for the classice threshold model on networks. We find some exotic behavior arising from appearing and disappearing pairs of fixed points.
