Episode 02: Stream ordering and the laws of branching networks

Summary:

We define stream ordering in a couple of ways, and think about how branching networks are partitioned with this appraoch. We describe the laws of Horton, Strahler, and Tokunaga which collectively detail the mixed hierarchical, self-similar nature of real branching networks. And we begin to connect Horton and Tokunaga, showing that only two parameters of six are independent.
